LAND OF THE MIGHTY ZAMBEZI
ZAMBIA
Zambia straddles the Southern African and East African regions so can be combined with longer safaris in either. The main point of interest is Victoria Falls and that should probably be the focus of a trip here. Believe it or not the falls and the surrounding area warrant at least three days. People find they want to go back and see it again the next day, view it from different locations and do some activities related to it (micro-light or helicopter over it, bungee down it, swim at its lip in Devils Pool or white-water raft below it are some of the more adrenaline filled activities but there are also boat cruises, elephant-back safaris, horse riding, canoeing and game drives to consider). The town of Livingstone is right by the falls and staying in the town is one convenient option but staying a few miles out of town offers its own attractions.
Flying to link up with a safari in Tanzania is popular or flying to Jo’burg in South Africa. Driving through to Botswana is also possible – either as a day trip to Chobe National Park or to continue the rest of your trip.
