gorilla territory
RWANDA
People often choose to combine a short visit to Rwanda with a fuller safari in Tanzania.
Rwanda is a small compact mountainous country in the middle of Africa. It is quite easy to travel from the capital to see the main points of interest. Most people come here to visit the Volcanos National Park with its montane forests, endemic species and population of Mountain Gorilla.
This is really the most accessible, but most pristine setting to go Gorilla trekking.

The 5 Day Gorilla Trek in Rwanda is our best-selling “once in a life time” itinerary. Encountering gorillas is an extraordinarily humbling wildlife experience. The trek can be personalised to include additional activities, it also works as an excellent extension to a wildlife safari in Tanzania or a cultural experience in Ethiopia.

GORILLA TREKKING
Our representative will meet and transfer you to your hotel for dinner and overnight. Conveniently situated the hotel has very comfortable amenities and great service. Perhaps treat yourself to a massage at Saray Spa or take a refreshing dip in the outdoor pool. Kigali Marriot (meals – dinner and breakfast)
After breakfast enjoy a city tour which includes the Genocide Museum followed by lunch at a local restaurant before departing on the scenic two and a half hour drive to Parc National des Volcans (Volcanoes National Park). The journey north goes through beautiful terraced hillsides that characterise much of Rwanda’s landscape, gradually climbing to the base of the awesome Virunga volcanoes, sometimes with as many as five peaks visible until you arrive at Five Volcanoes Hotel, a small hotel which is set just along the road heading to Kinigi – Volcanoes National Park head office. The lodge offers relaxing accommodation, with beautiful views of the rolling hills of the Land of a thousand hills. Each cottage is air conditioned with TV, fridge and kettle. Other facilities include a pool, a traditional sauna and a steam sauna. Overnight 5 Volcanoes (meals – breakfast, lunch, dinner)
Wake up early and enjoy a hot breakfast before venturing off to track the gorillas. Tracking the gorillas on the slopes of the Virungas is a magical experience. Please note that you cannot use flash photography, so a fast film is a must! You can hire porters to carry your equipment up the mountain; this is a large percentage of their income so we encourage guests to hire them for the day. If you are lucky you can get to the gorillas, spend an hour with them, and be back in time for a late lunch! Some gorilla families are more elusive, and tracking can take longer. However, falling under the gaze of a great silverback makes any trek seem worth it. Overnight 5 Volcanoes (meals – breakfast, lunch, dinner)
After breakfast, drive back to Kigali and check in to your hotel. Following lunch, enjoy the This is Africa Project tour – this experience brings you right into the heart of the colours, noises and smells of Africa. Working with the young and charming women of the Nyamirambo Women’s Centre (NWC) they will guide you through their home area. Among others, you will experience the Muslim quarter with its Arab influences, the market, the West African tailors, the hair salons, the recording studio with its local rap music, the butcher, the health centre and the primary school. Your hosts will also invite you to one of their homes where you will learn how to cook a Rwandan meal. Drive back to your hotel in the evening for dinner and overnight. Overnight Kigali Marriot (meals – breakfast, lunch, dinner)
After an early breakfast, transfer to the airport for your departing flight out of Rwanda

If you would like an ethnic experience then a visit to the tribes of the Omo Valley in Ethiopia would be an excellent option.
