Gorilla Territory

People often choose to combine a short visit to Rwanda with a fuller safari in Tanzania.

Rwanda is a small compact mountainous country in the middle of Africa. It is quite easy to travel from the capital to see the main points of interest. Most people come here to visit the Volcanos National Park with its montane forests, endemic species and population of Mountain Gorilla.

This is really the most accessible, but most pristine setting to go Gorilla trekking.

Gorilla Trekking

This safari was created mainly to see the Mountain Gorillas but with a chance to see something of the culture and habitat of Rwanda as well. It makes a great extension to a Tanzanian safari.

Day 1: Arrive at Kigali International Airport where you wil be met and taken to Hotel des Mille Collines

This Kempinski owned hotel is one of the best in Kigali and "starred" in the film Hotel Rwanda.

Day 2: You will have a tour of the capital, Kigali before heading to the mountains...

- Your tour will include the Genocide Museum - which is well worth a visit. You will then be taken 2 hours to Volcanoes National Park to stay at Jack Hannas Lodge- nestled in the foothills of the forest in preparation for tomorrows gorilla treking

Day 3: Spend the morning gorilla trekking

The chances of getting a good sighting is high and you are often back at the Jack Hannas Lodge- dirty, tired but happy - for a late lunch. Spend the afternoon relaxing or take a short guided forest walk.

Day 4: Spend another day gorilla trekking

This is an optional extra (alternatively you can go on a walk to find the Golden Monkey or a cultural village walk). However many people find that a second gorilla trek is well worth it and those who didn't book it often wish they had done. Spend the night at Jack Hannas Lodge.

Day 5: Visit the Nyamirambu Womens Centre- showcasing various aspects of Rwandan culture and life

Then travel back to Kigali to spend the night at Hotel des Milles Collines once again.

Day 6: You will be taken back to the airport ..

To continue your safari in Tanzania or sadly to say goodbye to Africa … for now!

From $3000 USD per person sharing.
